5. How can I see and use MrSid files by ICC?

Software suggested:

MrSid files can be used as reference cartography (are images, so working with layers is not possible) in programs such as AutoCad, ArcView, MicroStation and others. You can see a list of software that allows working with MrSid format. Every manufacturer's website shows how to do it.

Take into account that some use conditions exist and must be accepted.

7. What are and how do we use .sdw and .jgw files?

.sdw files attached to MrSid files, and .jgw files attached to JPEG files, are georeferencing files and help some programs to load images into correct coordinates.

When changing a MrSid file into another format and georeference must be kept, is suggested to include an external file with corresponding extension (when image changes to .tif, .sdw file changes to .tfw extension)

8. Downloaded maps do not include a UTM grid

This grid is used with printed maps to locate elements. Digital cartography available by ICC is georeferenced, so it does not need this reference grid.

Otherwise, if you need to print or deliver this cartography with a reference grid, it is possible to add it by hand by drawing 'vertical' and 'horizontal' lines with an offset depending on your requirements, suggesting 100 m or similar.

9. How can I print at scale the MrSid maps I have downloaded?

  1. Use any compatible application that allows print resolution setting (not sizes) and choose 254 dpi
  2. Convert them into TIFF format if you haven't any software to do it directly (see faq 2 )

11. Irfanview launches an error if I try to open a MrSid image

This error occurs

  • if MrSid image (*.sid file) is located in other computer (file in network) or
  • if it is too many folders inside and access path is too long.

So, we suggest to copy MrSid images on your computer root (C:), or only one folder inside.
