Nature and functions

In accordance with the provisions of Article 25 of Decree 398/2006, of October 24th, approving the Regulation for the development of the Law 16/2005, of December 27th, of the geographic information and the Institut Cartogràfic de Catalunya, the Cartographic Coordination Commission of Catalonia (C4) works in Plenary or in technical commissions because of the themes. The  Plenary determines the creation of technical commissions, which will be formed by members of the C4 and, where applicable, by external people with recognized competence in the matters to be tackled. The C4 will be able to charge the technical commissions with the achievement of goals in relation with the matters within its scope.

In this legal framework the C4, in its meeting nº 20 held on 14th April 2015, decided to create the Technical Commission of Geology and Geophysics (CT4:GG) with the following goals:

  • Develop and propose technical criteria to facilitate the coordination of geological, geophysical and geotechnical works carried out in Catalonia;
  • Propose rules and standards that are considered suitable for the implementation of activities in the fields of geology and geophysics and related disciplines such as soil sciences, pedology, seismology, geological engineering and geotechnics;
  • Propose the necessary measures to avoid duplication of tasks;
  • Develop proposals for the nomenclature and symbology to be used in the geothematic mapmaking incorporating geological, pedology or, in general, geothematic information;
  • Propose any measures deemed necessary to the rules, nomenclature and symbology approved by the C4 are adopted by the maximum possible number of organizations with the aim of promoting uniformity mapping criteria;
