Mission
According to the Spanish Royal Decree RD 1545/2007 which regulates the National Cartographic System, the main objective of the Commission is to draw up proposals about cartographic norms. These consist of standardized criteria which must be fulfilled by National Cartographic System’s cartography in order to harmonize the geographic information produced by different organizations and make its use easier.
Objectives
- To follow the progress of national and international standards about geographic information.
- To analyse the technical characteristics from similar cartographic products within the national context.
- To set up harmonized models compliant with legislation in force:
- Harmonize 1:5,000 / 1:10,000 topographic databases in a common model and describe it formally in the Technical Data Specifications of the Harmonized Topographic Database (BTA), fulfilling ISO 19100 standards.
- Draw up a common proposal for Urban Topographic Database (BTU) at large scales (1:500 – 1:1,000) by means of a similar harmonization process.
- To spread the projects and works developed by the Commission.
